Handling Insulin

•Wash your hands before touching your insulin supplies.
•Use alcohol to wipe down the top of your insulin bottle.
•If you see frosty rings, clumping or liquid separation in your vial, open a new bottle of insulin.
•Instead of shaking your vial, gently roll it between your hands to mix the insulin before each use.
•Pinch your skin at the injection site to make sure you’re not injecting into muscle.
•Always pull the needle out at the same angle you put it in.
•Always dispose of your syringes by placing them in a plastic or metal container that closes.

Storing Insulin

•Always check the expiration date on the insulin bottle.
•Avoid exposing your insulin to extreme temperatures, which may cause clumping.
•When opening your bottle, write the date on it. Bottles are good for about 1 month after opening.
